Background

This web site grew from an animated demonstration to a series of ten lessons spanning the content of an entire ECE course. Gary Daniels, adjunct assistant professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, conceived of the initial interactive lesson as an adaptation of a physical demonstration he traditionally performed in class - rolling balls down a ramp as an analogy to electron flow in a circuit.

Professor Daniels came to the Faculty Innovation Center with his ideas in 2001. The Faculty Innovation Center (FIC) supports learning and instructional innovation within at UT's College of Engineering by providing media and instructional development services. Following the success of the first lesson, Daniels and the FIC agreed to expand the project into a series of lessons, making adjustments to the format and adding interactive exercises. The site is still in development and lessons will continue to be added until all ten are complete.

The project was presented at the 2003 annual conference of the American Society for Engineering Educators (ASEE). For more information on the project, please review the ASEE paper and presentation.
