The Oxford English Dictionary defines a myth as “A
purely fictitious narrative usually involving supernatural persons, actions,
or events, and embodying some popular idea concerning natural or historical
phenomena. Although a myth narrative is fictitious, the myth itself may
be true or false.”
The purpose of this web site is to develop skills
for students (and other interested parties) to analyze popular claims
about energy and resource conservation. We will determine whether they
have a scientific basis and under what conditions a myth is likely to
be true.
By using this web site, students will be able to:
-
Critically analyze claims about energy and resource conservation.
-
Apply engineering principles to myth evaluation.
-
Apply building environmental systems knowledge to new problems in
real buildings.
The general public is invited to use this web site
to research common myths about energy and resource conservation. We welcome
your comments and suggestions in the Feedback
